Oily

Skin that makes plenty of its own oil,
and does better for a lighter touch.

Skin that shines through the day, especially across the forehead and nose, with more visible pores. Oily skin makes more surface oil than it strictly needs, but it rarely reacts, and its natural oiliness gives it some protection. It doesn't want stripping back. It wants light hydration that works with it, and that's what this part of the range is built to give it.

Is this you?

Oily skin tends to shine by the middle of the day, particularly across the T-zone. Make-up may start to slide, a tissue pressed to the skin comes away with a shine, and pores are usually easier to see. What it doesn't often do is feel tight, flake, or react badly to new products.

If your skin is more shine than tightness and generally takes things in its stride, you're in the right place. If you're not sure, the skin type finder will point you the right way.

What this skin type needs

Oily skin gets more advice thrown at it than any other type, most of it about stripping the oil away. That tends to backfire, because skin stripped of its oil often responds by making more. So the approach here is the opposite of a fight. Light hydration from oils chosen to suit oily skin, to support it rather than provoke it.

Oily skin still needs moisture, and skipping it altogether is a common way to end up shinier, not less. So the oils are light and low-comedogenic, and the textures are kept as light as the range goes. Support, not strip.

The oils we chose for it

Every Oily moisturiser shares the same blend of four cold-pressed organic oils, chosen for this skin type, and it's the lightest blend in the range.

Grape seed is a light, fast-absorbing oil high in linoleic acid, the essential fatty acid the skin uses to keep its barrier in order, and a natural fit for oily skin. Rose hip is similarly light and linoleic-rich, and the research credits it with supporting skin texture and tone. Argan sits at a modest level as a conditioning note, described for its fatty acids and vitamin E rather than the marketing that tends to surround it. And dragon fruit seed oil adds a light, well-balanced profile.

Around those four sits a supporting cast shared across the whole range. Squalane, a lightweight oil close to one the skin makes for itself. Soothing allantoin. A prebiotic and postbiotic pairing chosen to support the skin's own microbiome, where the evidence is still emerging and we would rather say so than overstate it. And our signature bladderwrack, the same Atlantic seaweed species we know from the rocks below Welcombe, though the extract itself is produced in France from that species. The coast is the kinship here, not the supply chain.

Every ingredient, and the exact amount of each, is published on each product page. That's the whole point of how we work, and each one links through to its own page if you want to read further.

Your three moisturisers

The same Oily blend comes in three textures, so you can match the richness to where you're using it. All three stay light, since that's what this skin type is after.

Flow is the lightest, made for the face. Core is a touch richer, for the body. Deep is the richest of the three, for the areas that turn dry even on oily skin, the hands, elbows and feet.

Same blend throughout. More or less of it, depending on what the skin is asking for.

Looking after Oily skin

A couple of habits help oily skin far more than any amount of stripping does.

Don't skip moisturiser. It's the single most common mistake with oily skin, and going without often leaves the skin drier underneath and oilier on top. Cleanse gently rather than harshly, with lukewarm water, since hot water and aggressive cleansers strip the skin and prompt it to make even more oil to compensate. Reach for lighter textures. And give antioxidants and sensible sun protection a place, both of which suit this skin type well. Working with your skin beats waging war on it.

You'll have noticed we never use synthetic fragrance. There's a single essential oil in the range, vetiver, at a low level and chosen on purpose, and it appears on every label so you can see exactly how much is there.

Your skin can settle over time

Oily isn't a fixed label. Looked after steadily, without the stripping that provokes more oil, oily skin often calms down over time, and for some people it gradually settles toward the steadier Balanced type. It's gradual, it comes from working with your skin rather than against it rather than from any single product working magic, and it's a good reason to treat where your skin is today as a starting point. If it changes, the skin type finder is always there to place yourself again.
